The Cowboys have had plenty of time to hammer out a deal with Dez Bryant, and per recent reports, it appears that time has finally come. He's made it clear that the $12.823M franchise tag he was offered this spring wasn't to his liking, and has publicly threatened to hold out in light of it. With the July 15th deadline to extend franchised players looming, a new deal appears imminent. We'll run Bryant through our projection formula, now utilizing statistics from the 2013 & 2014 seasons, to predict what the Cowboys should be putting in front of him in the next few days
Comparable Wide Receivers
Now 26 years old, Bryant is a bit younger than Vincent Jackson was at the time of his last signing. We'll adjust his contract accordingly, then to determine a more likely starting point for our numbers, we'll perform a linear regression of each contract breakdown listed below.
Player Length Value Avg. Salary Age When Signed
Calvin Johnson 7 $113,445,000 $16,207,857 26
Vincent Jackson  5 $55,555,555 $11,111,111 29
Jeremy Maclin  5 $55,000,000 $11,000,000 26
Mike Wallace 5 $60,000,000 $12,000,000 26
Averages 6.5 $88,563,750 $13,509,107 26.75

Note: A linear regression is a formula that plots the provided points of data for Length and Value of the contracts, and then generates the best-fit line for those points, resulting in a "slope" value that translates to an average annual salary.

Once a linear regression is performed on these new numbers we're given the following terms to begin with:

Length Value Avg. Salary (slope)
5 $66,409,789 $13,281,958
