Arizona Cardinals
Top 51 Cap Space: $16,626,224 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: QB, LB, G, CB
It should come as no surprise, but the Cardinals currently hold the 2nd oldest roster on average, and will be looking to get younger and cheaper in a lot of areas in the coming years. Their largest cap allocations currently lie in the secondary, quarterbacks, and offensive line, while at just 1.15%, their running back core is the cheapest in the NFL.

Baltimore Ravens
Top 51 Cap Space: $4,520,527 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: OLB, WR, CB
The Ravens boast the 4th average oldest roster currently, due in large part to their secondary and tight end core. While their special teams arsenal ($8.4M, 5% of the cap) might be slightly overpaid, their 7 defensive linemen account for just $10M combined - cheapest in the league.

Carolina Panthers
Top 51 Cap Space: $13,342,492 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: OL, RB, WR, DE/OLB
The Panthers are currently the oldest team in the league on average, and also have the 2nd most cap dollars allocated, split almost exactly 50/50 among offense and defense. Carolina has just $18.5M cap dollars allocated to 17 defensive backs, and $10.6M cap dollars allocated to 9 WRs. The Panthers are widely expected to snag a running back on draft day as they look to get younger (8th oldest) and cheaper (7th most) at that position.

This figure is offset by above average spending in their secondary, on the defensive line, and at the wide receiver position. With 11 picks in the upcoming draft, the Bengals will be a team to watch.

Detroit Lions
Top 51 Cap Space: $5,699,159 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: Pass Rush, CB, DL, WR
Outside of their special teams unit (5.25%, $8.8M, 1st in the league) the Lions are "middle-of-the-road" spenders elsewher across the board. Their secondary cap allocations (19.5%, $32M, 10th) are slightly above average while their linebacking core (7.2%, $12M, 29th) is well below. Detroit still has a bit of cap to shed as well.

Green Bay Packers
Top 51 Cap Space: $21,437,826 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: RB, OL, CB
The loss of Eddie Lacy and James Stark has plummeted the Packers running back cap allocation to 31st in the league (1.8%, $3.1M). On the flip side Green Bay's 9 wide receivers account for more than $28M (17%, 2nd most in the NFL). Their biggest defecits elsewhere come from the offensive line and secondary, both expected to be addressed in next week's draft.

Houston Texans
Top 51 Cap Space: $30,684,916 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: OT, TE, QB, S
Generally speaking, the Texans are underspending at nearly every position in comparison to the league average. This is certainly evident at the QB position (1.4%, $2.4M, 2nd lowest in the NFL). 18% of the Texans' active cap is allocated to the offensive line, but that shouldn't stop them from drafting a tackle next week.

Jacksonville Jaguars
Top 51 Cap Space: $52,037,255 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: OG, Pass Rush, TE
Jacksonville used it's plethora of cap space to bring in 12 free agents this offseason ($172M). The graph above shows the Jags spending habits have been almost identical to the league average positionally, with the exception of an elite-paid WR, and a young QB under contract (for now). Jacksonville has focused it's recent cap dollars to the defensive line, and will switch gears to the offensive side of the ball come draft time.

New deals for Eric Berry (S) and Ron Parker (DB), shouldn't keep the Chiefs from locating a shut down corner in the upcoming draft. Kansas City's defensive back cap allocations (12.8%) are well below the league average. Their linebacking core ($41M, most in the NFL) is also the 3rd oldest on average.

Top 51 Cap Space: $1,392,935 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: OL, TE/WR, DB

The new defensive scheme requires flexibility from the safety position, something the current Chargers' roster doesn't boast. Meanwhile the Chargers' two 2016 free agent signings to the offensive line (Franklin/Barksdale) were major disappointments. LA will need to reach higher to improve Philip Rivers' protection.

Miami Dolphins
Top 51 Cap Space: $18,905,698 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: OG, DT, S
The Dolphins made a lot of noise this winter, with notable releases, a few trades, and quality extensions. The result is a salary cap that provides great value at the running back and wide receivers positions, leaving room to bolster the offensive line and secondary this April.

Minnesota Vikings
Top 51 Cap Space: $15,688,611 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: OL, DL, RB, LB
The Vikings addressed their offensive tackle needs through free agency (Reiff, Remmers) but still need to get younger and cheaper at the Guard and Center positions. On the other side of the ball Minnesota's linebacking core accounts for just 8% of their active roster cap, 27th in the league. Both the running back and wide receiver cores are well below the league spending averages at this point as well.

New England Patriots
Top 51 Cap Space: $20,629,022 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: Pass Rush, OL, CB
The Patriots are a deep roster right now, and have already addressed most of their major needs via free agency/trade. However the long-term outlook shows a possible need to replace Ninkovich, Malcolm Butler, and Nate Solder after 2017. In terms of spending New England is at or below average in almost every positional group, with the exception of defensive back, largely due to the blockbuster signing of Stephon Gilmore this March.

New Orleans Saints
Top 51 Cap Space: $7,298,103 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: DB, LB, WR, QB
The Saints made a lot of tough moves this offseason to clean up their roster/cap number, but still have needs in both areas. Just 33% of the Saints active salary cap is allocated to the defensive side of the ball. That should change come draft time. The loss of Brandin Cooks dropped New Orleans' WR cap allocations down to 4.8%, the lowest in the NFL. Don't be surprised to see a high selection used for a QB here as well.

New York Giants
Top 51 Cap Space: $8,093,719 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: OT, RB, TE, QB
The Giants have poured a strong amount of financial reinforcements into their defensive line/backfield (47% of their active cap) over the past two offseasons. This leaves the offensive side of the ball a bit light, notably Tight End (2.3%, 29th), Offensive Line (13.8%, 25th). Both should be high draft selections.

Oakland Raiders
Top 51 Cap Space: $31,607,640 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: CB, LB, RB, OLB
For now the Raiders have just 1.8% of their active salary cap allocated to QBs (29th in the NFL). That is likely to change before summer's end. Oakland has spent multiple offseasons pumping money into the offensive line, and has been rewarded for doing so. Elsewhere Oakland's linebacker core ($11M, 6.5%) is 30th in the league in terms of cap spending, and the loss of Latavius Murray leaves the running back arsenal ($4M, 2.4%) at 29th.

Philadelphia Eagles
Top 51 Cap Space: $2,451,381 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: CB, RB, WR, DT
Outside of an offensive line that ranks 2nd in terms of cap spending ($45M, 27% of active cap), the Eagles are basically average across the board. The removal of Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel from the active cap has dropped their QB spending to 4.5% (27th in the NFL). Look for Philly to bolster the WR and DT positions early in the draft, as the current core has plenty of expiring contracts after 2017.

Pittsburgh Steelers
Top 51 Cap Space: $15,115,697 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: LB, CB, WR, QB
The Steelers might be on the verge of having their current window of success close in front of them. They certainly need to get younger and at the linebacker position and deeper at both the wide receiver and defensive back positions this spring. Le'Veon Bell's franchise tag has the running back core accounting for nearly 10% of the Steelers' active cap (1st in the NFL), while a croweded offensive line accounts for $38M (23%, 5th).

Seattle Seahawks
Top 51 Cap Space: $9,758,815 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: OL, CB, LB/Pass Rush
A look at their spending graph above makes it pretty clear where the Seahawks focus will be next week. At $15M (9%) Seattle boasts the cheapest offensive line spending in the NFL currently. The same can't be said for the defensive backfield, where their $44.5M (26%) in cap ranks 1st in the league. The Seahawks also boast the youngest roster on average, and the 5th highest active roster salary cap.

San Francisco 49ers
Top 51 Cap Space: $70,213,476 | Draft Picks: 10 | Potential Draft Needs: Pass Rush, QB, WR, LB, etc ALL
The 49ers current roster embodies the epitome of a rebuild. Their active salary cap ($133M) is the lowest in the NFL, and their spending ranks lower than 15th in 8 of the 9 position groups. Their draft board next week should simply say "Best Available".

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Top 51 Cap Space: $28,718,332 | Draft Picks: 7 | Potential Draft Needs: S, TE, RB
The Bucs made a few smaller free agent signings to bolster their secondary, but are expected to look for a long-term solution via the draft. Doug Martin (suspended, PEDs) leaves the RB position a bit up in the air, while the Bucs 6 linebackers account for just $9M (5.3%), cheapest in the league. Conversely, Tampa Bay's defensive line has $43M (25.6%) allocated to it, the most in the NFL.

Tennessee Titans
Top 51 Cap Space: $47,615,885 | Draft Picks: 8 | Potential Draft Needs: WR, CB, LB
It's expected that the Titans will take the first WR off the board next week to help bolster an offensive on the rise. Tennessee has done well to fill holes on that side of the ball while keeping their costs at an "average" rate, with the exception of an offensive line that combines 11 players at just $18.4M (11%) - 3rd cheapest in the NFL. Expect Tennessee to address an aging linebacker core through the draft as well.

Washington Redskins
Top 51 Cap Space: $8,118,703 | Draft Picks: 10 | Potential Draft Needs: DL, DB, OL, RB
An already bad defensive line lost its best player (Chris Baker) to free agency, leaving the Redskins little choice at the top of the draft this year. A slightly overpriced offensive line as 3 of 5 starters entering contract years, while the Redskins have pumped volume into their linebackers and secondary, might should be looking to get younger and cheaper in both cases. Their nearly $171M in active roster cap ranks 4th in the league currently.
