How Much Is Your QB Actually Worth?

How Much Is Your QB Actually Worth?
Untitled Document

As the 2017 NFL regular season begins to wind down, many franchises will begin to set sights on the 2018 league year. For a few teams, this will mean making a decision on their current or future QB. As rumors heat up surrounding extensions, trades, & prospective free agent options, it's important to keep in mind one thing: The last time a $100 million NFL contract actually amounted to $100 million was, never.

Reported contract values are in place as to act as a "possible" dollar figure - but not a likely one. In almost all cases, most if not all of the guaranteed money structured into major NFL deals are paid out across the first three years, rending the final 2 or 3 salaries moot.

With this in mind, we took a quick look at the current multi-year contracts for notable quarterbacks across the league, breaking down their fully reported value & average salary - but then spelling out how that average looks over 2 years, and 3 years. In the final column of our table we've assessed with the more "likely" term & value is for the contract, allowing for the team to trade or relesae the player with minimal dead cap left behind.
