NL Wildcard Postseason Rosters, Financially
Untitled Document

A quick look at the financial breakdowns for the NL Wildcard rosters shows the differences in how the teams are put together. The Cubs bring a 25-man payroll of $76M into the 1-game series, while the Pirates account for a bit less at $66M. Chicago's 10 available pitchers combine for $30M in 2015 salary, half of which belongs to Jon Lester (who may not see the mound). 43% of the Pirates $27M in pitching payroll tonight comes from Francisco Liriano, who also might not see action.

Also of note, the Pirates starting 9 tonight account for just $26M in combined payroll. Justin Verlander ($28M) and Clayton Kershaw ($32.5M) earned more on their own this year. The Cubs starting 9 combines for $38.5M in salary, an average of $4.2M per player (largely skewed by Miguel Montero's $12M salary).
