2017 MLB Opening Day Payrolls
Untitled Document

After an offseason that saw over $1.4 billion in free agent signings, the 2017 MLB regular season is upon on us. We've broken down the financial figures for the upcoming season by team & position, highlighting how the opening day 25-man payrolls break down. Additionally we've laid out how the 25-man rosters are compiled in terms of Veterans, Arbitration Eligibles, and Pre-Arbs, while also breaking down the offseason spending patterns for each team.

MLB Total Roster Payrolls

The following shows how MLB teams are spending their dollars across their total active payrolls (including players starting the year on the disabled list). We've also broken things down by positional category for a deeper look, and included a column showing the dollars spent to just the 25-Man rosters that will hit the field today/tomorrow.

Notable Notes

  • $38M+ in retained salary keeps the Dodgers atop the total payroll list ($242M)
  • The WS Champ Cubs carry the highest 25-Man payroll ($170M)
  • At just $62M the Brewers find themselves with the lowest payroll to start 2017.
